Transportation in rural areas has always been a vital aspect of community life, connecting people to places, services, and each other. Over the years, the landscape of rural transport has undergone significant changes, adapting to the evolving needs of the community and advancements in technology. In this journey, TFI Local Link Galway has been a cornerstone, playing a pivotal role in transforming rural mobility in County Galway.
A Historical Perspective
The story of rural transport in County Galway is one of innovation and community spirit. It began with the Rural Transport Initiative (RTI), established as a pilot project in 2002 to address unmet transport needs from a social inclusion and community-based perspective. This initiative laid the groundwork for what would become a comprehensive approach to rural transportation.
In 2007, the Rural Transport Programme (RTP) was launched, building on the success of the RTI. The RTP focused on responding to rural isolation and enhancing the mobility, accessibility, and community participation of local people, particularly those at risk of social exclusion.
TFI Local Link Galway: A Beacon of Progress
TFI Local Link Galway, a development of the RTP, has been at the forefront of this evolution. Our company started with the mission to provide affordable and reliable transportation solutions to the local community. We have grown from offering a few routes to a robust network that spans the entire county.
Then and Now
Then: The journey began with a modest number of routes, primarily focusing on door-to-door services and catering to the most pressing needs of the community.
Now: Today, TFI Local Link Galway operates over 60 services a week, Regular Rural Services, and door-to-door services, ensuring that everyone has equal access to transportation services.
The Role of TFI Local Link Galway
TFI Local Link Galway has not only expanded its services but also embraced technological advancements and sustainable practices. We have been instrumental in:
Bridging the Gap: Connecting rural areas with national bus and rail services, thus integrating the community with the broader public transport network.
Community Focus: Offering low fares and accessibility solutions for people with disabilities, we have ensured that transportation is inclusive for all members of the community.
Sustainability: Aligning with the Galway Transport Strategy (GTS), we support sustainable modes of transport and the transition to a low carbon economy.
