We’re excited to announce that from 14 July, TFI Local Link Route 548 will be enhanced and extended as part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a national initiative by the National Transport Authority (NTA) to improve rural public transport across Ireland.
What’s Changing?
Route Extension: Route 548 will now run from Loughrea to Athlone via Ballinasloe, connecting even more communities.
Weekend Services: For the first time, the route will operate four daily return services Monday to Sunday.
Peak-Time & Evening Services: Better options for commuters, students, and evening travelers.
Improved Connectivity: Direct links to Ballinasloe & Athlone Train Stations, regional bus services, and the villages like Bellough, Summerhill, Cornafulla, Clonark, Dubarry, Kilconnell, Ballyfa, and Bullaun.
Joe Greally, Manager of TFI Local Link Galway, shared:
“This enhancement is a much-needed upgrade that will serve many more people, especially along the Ballinasloe to Athlone section. Whether it’s accessing education, healthcare, shopping, or simply staying connected with family and friends, this route will make a real difference in people’s lives.”
